A new open space area is now operational in Kerang following the completion of a key project outlined in Gannawarra Shire Council’s 2018/2019 Budget.
The Kerang open space precinct, located in Scoresby Street between Victoria and Albert streets, opened to the public today following close to three months of works.
The project involved the demolition of public toilets, replacing the complex with modern amenities and a large open garden space for residents and visitors to use.
“Much-needed repairs were needed within the former toilet block, with the completed project providing both residents and visitors with access to modern, functional and practical amenities,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“The improvements to the amenities have also enabled the development of the largest open garden space within the Kerang central business area. This space, which features seating and lawn area, will be a welcome space to rest whilst spending time in Kerang.”
Meanwhile, the construction of new amenities at Cohuna’s Apex Park is nearing completion.
“It is anticipated the new toilet block will be completed in the coming weeks, with the demolition of the current facilities scheduled between 1 May and 16 May,” Mayor Learmonth said.
“As previously announced, public toilet facilities at Apex Park will not be available during this time, with residents and tourists advised to use amenities at the Cohuna Memorial Hall and the Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre.
“Council thanks the community for their patience as both projects have progressed.”
Both projects are part of Council’s $11.06 million Capital Works program approved in the 2018/2019 Budget.
