The Burdekin’s already impressive Art Trail is expanding yet again, with a colourful mural completed earlier this week.
Townsville-based artist John Bradshaw has spent just over one week producing the 90m2 mural across the front and side facade of the Home Hill Backpackers building.
The artwork shows a smiling crowd of faces and is inspired by the Burdekin’s many festivals and events.
This is the fourth mural created by Mr Bradshaw in the Burdekin. The talented artist was engaged by Council late last year to create the Sweet Days, Hot Nights and Home Grown murals in Eighth Avenue, as well as the Comfort Stop’s Burdekin Snow mural back in 2017.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the newest addition would be a welcome sight for visitors to the region.
“Watson Green’s has been at the very heart of the Home Hill Harvest Festival for many years, so it’s very fitting that this artwork will overlook that area,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“This mural will not only be a bright addition for those staying at the Home Hill Backpackers accommodation – it will also be a point of interest for guests of the Burdekin Memorial Hall and for travelling motorists, drawing them off the Bruce Highway and into the town’s CBD, which will ultimately benefit local business.”
