Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is inviting the community to comment on draft floodplain risk management measures over the next few weeks.

TRC Deputy Mayor and Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor said the measures had been developed to help protect communities in the Toowoomba Region from flooding.

“Council is committed to the goal of a safer, stronger, more resilient region by continuing to improve flood risk management,” she said.

“Council has completed region-wide flood risk studies which have classified Yarraman, Maclagan, Quinalow, Cooyar, Crows Nest, Jondaryan and Oakey as high priority areas requiring further flood risk management analysis.

“As an essential next step, Council has developed a Floodplain Risk Management Plan for each community. These plans contain flood risk management measures designed to reduce flood risk in each community.

“We are now seeking community feedback these measures. The community can provide feedback in writing, over the phone and in person until 5pm on Tuesday 14 May 2019.

“Community feedback will be used to guide the development of a final set of floodplain mitigation measures for each community which Council will then consider.”

The draft measures can be viewed online via https://yoursay.tr.qld.gov.au/floodplain-risk-management and in hard copy at Customer Service Centres. For more information, please visit the website, call Council on 131 872 and quote Floodplain Risk Management or email [email protected].
