Water Restrictions Hours Amended - Odds & Evens System - 1 April 2019
Cobar Shire Council 29 Apr 2019

Our water supply is currently facing a number of issues, so Council has no choice but to ask our residents and the community to save as much water as possible. This is due to:

The severe drought conditions has and will affect the amount of water that we get from the Burrendong Dam. As well as the major pump at Hermidale failing (this has been sent off to be repaired). The Cobar Water Board has acted quickly and has leased a large diesel pump in order to keep up with the required flow of water (190L/per second) from Nyngan to Cobar.

Cobar Water Board should be pumping 190L/ per second. However, with the breakdown we are currently pumping 150L/second (this flow will continue until the diesel pump arrives).

With the current drought conditions currently affecting the supply of water from Burrendong Dam to Cobar Shire and significantly high temperatures that we are experiencing, Cobar Shire Council will need to introduce tougher, but necessary water restrictions until further notice as a precautionary measure to conserve water.

From 1 APRIL 2019 the 'odds and evens' system will continue. However, with reduced time spans. If your house number is an even number, you can water on even dates, ie 2nd, 4th, 6th of the month. If your house number is odd, you can water on the odd dates, ie 1st, 3rd, 5th of the month with reduced time spans.

Watering by handheld hoses ONLY (NO fixed sprinklers or irrigation systems) can occur between 5pm to 8pm ONLY. There should be no outside watering other than during these times.

NO car washing permitted on hard surfaces.

These measures are in order to ensure the water supply to Cobar does not reach critical levels which will require more severe restrictions such as a complete ban on outside watering.

Council appreciates your assistance in this matter. If residents continue to ignore the water restrictions, fines will be issued.

THESE RESTRICTIONS WILL COME INTO EFFECT ON 1 APRIL 2019.

The three Mines have been asked to begin reducing the amount of water they use as well as Council reducing or stopping watering our parks.

The Council together with the Cobar Water Board will keep the community informed on a regular basis on how our water usage and availabilty is going.

Please note: That our previous restrictions were not always followed by some and this time the new restrictions will be enforced.
