Meet council rangers’ newest recruits

Central Highlands Regional Council’s rangers’ team has welcomed its newest recruits this month.

Brutus the wolf, Porky the boar, Princess the Corgi and little red and little black flying fox will join the rangers on future community events and People and Pets Education Program (PetPep) visits across the region.

Coordinator Ranger Service Brett Keys said the animals were a hit at their first day on the job at the Gemfields Who We Are community day.

‘Brutus the wolf teaches all about safety around dogs, what to look for in a dog and when to avoid approaching it,’ Mr Keys said.

‘Princess the Corgi is Brutus’ faithful assistant, Porky reminds everyone about pest management and the hard to see upside down little red and black flying foxes are always present to educate people about their existence in our parks and gardens.’

Mayor Kerry Hayes said the animal figures bring a practical and fun element to the important work of educating people about responsible pet ownership and pest management.

‘As an engagement tool, particularly with children, we can foster responsible behaviours that lead to safety in our communities and look after our environment for generations to come,’ Mayor Hayes said.
