Everyone has played it at some stage and Toowoomba Region youngsters are urged to limber up to test their skills at the second Australian venue to host a modern take on chasey.

World Chase Tag™, a fresh version of the classic chasey game, has been added to the long list of activities provided by Toowoomba Regional Council’s award-winning CHANGE Project.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said the new game was suitable for five to 12-year-olds.

“World Chase Tag™ will be offered from 9am on the first Saturday of each month, starting on May 4, at Toowoomba’s Queens Park in a section off Lindsay Street next to the Botanic Gardens,” Cr Ramia said.

“Toowoomba is fortunate to be one of two Australian venues to offer an updated version of the classic game.

“Participants will duck and weave around inflatable obstacles as they chase their opponent.

“Apart from being a fun outing, it is designed to offer a healthy outdoor activity for children to join. Each session will cost $5 per contestant.

“The CHANGE Project is pleased to add another low-cost activity to its schedule.

“Health reports indicate more young people need to switch off their devices and get moving to enjoy the benefits of physical activity.”

Bookings for World Chase Tag™ can be made directly with Sharpe Kids Karate. Their details are available by visiting www.tr.qld.gov.au/change under the Kids tab - phone 0407 756 332 or email [email protected] ) or by calling Council on 131 872.

Sessions will not be run in school holidays. Organisers are requesting parents and guardians to supervise children during the sessions.

Council’s website also lists a range of other low-cost activities for young people (indoor agility course, All Abilities Konga Kids, Jungle Body Konga Kids).

Cr Ramia said the popularity of Council’s CHANGE Project continued to grow.

“Around 6000 people attended activities when the program started in 2012 and almost 60,000 people attended events and activities in the past year,” Cr Ramia said.

“There are 45 providers across the Toowoomba Region with a schedule of 86 regular activities.

“I encourage residents to join any of the sessions that cover group fitness (including sessions for seniors or mums and bubs), wellbeing activities (yoga and meditation), kids’ activities, running and walking groups, cycling sessions, outdoor gyms plus a range of food and healthy eating programs.”
