A new 3-bin Food Organics Garden Organics or FOGO system will be implemented across all Town of Bassendean households, with the aim of sending less waste to landfill and producing a high-quality compost.
The system to be rolled out in November 2019 works by providing households with a lime-green topped bin for FOGO material. Alongside the FOGO bin is a red-topped bin for general waste items that can’t be composted or recycled and lastly, the yellow-topped recycling bin remains as part of a fortnightly collection.
The Town of Bassendean will lead the East Metropolitan Region, being the first Council to implement FOGO.
Over the coming months, there will be a comprehensive community engagement plan rolled out to help all households learn more about the new 3 bin system.
