HomeNews Articles2019May 2019 New Tree Advisory Group formedTamworth Regional Council has started the next phase development of an Urban Street Tree Management Plan by endorsing the industry. leaders and community stakeholders who expressed their interest to form the first Tree Advisory Group.
The responsibility of the Tree Advisory Group will be to review and provide feedback to multiple urban tree management documents that highlight the policies and guidance for the current and future management of street and park trees within urban areas.
Tamworth Region Acting Mayor, Phil Betts says the group are keen to be involved in the planning and management of the region’s trees.
“We received 10 expressions of interest from qualified leaders and suitable community stakeholders who want to share their knowledge and passion to plan, manage and oversee the trees in our streets and parks.
“I’m confident that this group will help to best advise council on the next stages of the Urban Street Tree Management Plan.”
The following people will form the Urban Street Tree Advisory Group and will be required to act as part of the Advisory Group until all documents have been adopted by council:
Mr Greig Meyer – Community Stakeholder Mr Kerry Lowe – Community Stakeholder Mr Robert Chandler – Industry Leader Mrs Pam McCann – Community Stakeholder Mr Aiden McGregor – Industry Leader Mr David McKinnon – Industry Leader Mrs Susan Moore – Community Stakeholder Mr Daniel McArdle – Industry Leader Mrs Sue Wood – Community Stakeholder Mr Roy Cody – Industry LeaderThe overarching objectives of the Urban Street Tree Management Plan are to preserve and celebrate the character, heritage and culture of Tamworth and its surrounding towns and villages, manage Council’s streetscape to improve the visual appeal of the CBD and neighbourhoods and to incorporate a mature tree nursery.
Combined with three Councillors, Cr Jim Maxwell, Cr Helen Tickle and Cr Juanita Wilson, the Tree Advisory Group will meet at the end of May 2019 to elect a Chairperson and develop the Terms of Reference.
The Tree Advisory Group will look to expand to cover a cross variety of industry experts at a later stage.
