Federal Election Support: $8 Million for the Northern Midlands: Community and Education

Mayor Mary Knowles OAM yesterday confirmed that the Northern Midlands will benefit from $8 million in funding from the Labor Party if elected to Government, with funds going towards a variety of community and education projects.

Yesterday morning Councillor Janet Lambert, General Manager Des Jennings, Corporate Services Manager Maree Bricknell and Child Care Director Kate Lee joined Brian Mitchell MP as he made a funding announcement at the Perth Community Centre.

The following election commitments have been made by Labor:

$2.6 million for the Perth Early Learning Childcare Facility; $2 million for Morven Park; $1.7 million for the implementation of the Strength to Strength preventative health programme; $1.13 million for Cressy and Campbell Town District Highs and Longford, Perth, Avoca, Evandale Primary Schools.

“This is a significant investment in the Northern Midlands, and we hope to see other parties match it for the benefit of our residents throughout the municipality. The Northern Midlands is rapidly growing and in particular the town centre and surroundings of Perth. We have acknowledged the need to cater for the future expansion of Perth and the Early Learning Childcare Facility at the Perth Community Centre has been previously identified as a significant asset to the community.” said Mayor Knowles.

The Northern Midlands Council welcomes the announcement by Brian Mitchell MP on behalf of the opposition leader Bill Shorten to provide funding towards these vital community and education projects.
