The Cressbrook Dam camping ground will close temporarily while Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) upgrades infrastructure at the popular site.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said the work would force the closure of the camping ground from today (May 1) to June 28, weather permitting.
“Council will upgrade a number of facilities at the site which are at least 20 years old,” Cr Ramia said.
“The capital works comprise cosmetic upgrades to the amenities block. More general maintenance at the camping ground will include the reinstatement of several camp sites, tidying up vegetation and replacing sections of bollards.
“Council also will establish a fire buffer zone and perform drainage improvement works.
“Our outdoor recreation spaces are highly prized and well used by residents and visitors and we need to refresh facilities to offer people an enjoyable stay at our camping grounds.
“Council plans to complete the upgrades before the June-July school holidays and will notify residents when the facilities re-open.
“Council apologises for any inconvenience and thanks visitors for their patience during the upgrade work.”
Apart from the camping ground, residents are able to use other barbecue and public amenities during day opening hours at Cressbrook Dam. Water-based activities remain prohibited at the dam.
