Locals and visitors flocked to the Jindabyne Lake Light Sculpture event over the Easter long weekend. Held along the Lake Jindabyne foreshore, Lake Light has become one of our region’s showpiece events.

I had the privilege of presenting the Council sponsored Waste to Art Award. This was won by Peter Colbey for his sculpture – Creatures of the River. Peter’s work was brilliant and very much deserved the award.

Congratulations to all the artists who exhibited their works. The standard of entries was arguably the best yet.

The organising committee did a wonderful job in staging another successful Lake Light Sculpture.

At last week’s Council Meeting, Council resolved to place on public exhibition a proposal to re-establish Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) and Alcohol Prohibited Areas (APA) in Cooma and Jindabyne.

The zoning will apply in the same areas of Cooma and Jindabyne as enforced for the 2018 winter period.

The community is asked to have their say if AFZ and APA should be applied for the next three and half years.

To provide feedback and view the proposed areas AFZ and APA will apply, please visit Your Say Snowy Monaro or drop by any Council office. Feedback opened on Tuesday 23 April and closes on Friday 24 May.

Council also resolved to place on public exhibition the following draft documents: 2020 Operational Plan, 2020 Revenue Policy and 2020 Fees and Charges. These documents will be out for public comment from Friday April 26 until Thursday 23 May.

The Draft 2020 Operational Plan sets out the priorities, direction and the community’s expected level of service for the next financial year.

Copies of each document will be available on Council’s Your Say platform, Council offices, libraries and visitor information centres.

On Thursday, we will pause and remember the men and women who have served our nation. Their bravery and sacrifices will be commemorated at ANZAC Day services throughout the region. Lest we forget.
