The Neil Street bus station/car park lift will be out of service while maintenance works are carried out for two weeks in May 2019.
Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr Geoff McDonald said the work would involve upgrading the lift control system and the button sets which are used to select the level.
“The upgrade to the control system is needed to continue to maintain the safe operation of the lift. To allow the work to be carried out safely, the lift will need to be taken out of service from 20 May 2019 to 3 June 2019,” Cr McDonald said.
“This will mean the lift will not be available to access the car park levels so access will only be available using the stairs.
“Council understands that this will cause some inconvenience to the community but safety of bus station/car park patrons is our top priority.”
Cr McDonald said people with impaired or limited mobility or physical health problems should make alternate parking arrangements during these works. Alternative car parks are located at Central Car Park, Neil Street, and the Annand Street and Chalk Drive car parks.
“The bus station/car park will still be available to people able to use the stairs during this time,” he said.
“For those drivers who find that they can’t access the lift or that the car park is full and they need to exit the car park, there is a 15-minute free period from the time you get your ticket at the entrance to the time you ratify it at the payment machine so there won’t be a charge.
“Council thanks the community for their patience and co-operation during these upgrade works.”
