TIME is running out to secure your place in the biggest Great Barrier Reef Masters Games to date with entries for the bi-annual event closing midnight, Thursday 9 May.
The 2019 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games (GBRMG) have already attracted more than 1700 athletes from every state of Australia and internationally and will be held at venues across Cairns on 23-26 May.
With 22 sports registered, the 2019 GBRMG will be the biggest yet.
“Numbers for this year’s event have surpassed that for the 2017 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games and we are seeing an escalation in last minute interest over the past few days,” Cr Manning said.
There are athletes from across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Papua New Guinea and even the USA and United Kingdom registered for the Games.
“Events such as these raises our city’s profile and reputation to deliver international major events and it delivers important destination promotion of our region.
“More than half the registrations received so far are new participants in our Games and we are excited to introduce any first time visitors to our vibrant region.”
Participants who enter the 2019 GBRMG before midnight, 9 May will have their name printed on official merchandise and will be listed in the souvenir Games booklet.
All registered participants in the Games receive a great GBRMG pack with a duffle bag, cap, sunglasses, Games guide and discounts from local attractions, as well as access to three big nights of entertainment at the Games Social Hub. Supporters and friends can also purchase a Supporter pass for $50 which provides access to the Games social activities.
The Great Barrier Reef Masters Games was first held in Cairns in 2013. Now in its fourth instalment, the GBRMG will be held from 23 to 26 May 2019.
