Work has begun on the much anticipated replenishment of water back into Perry Lakes.
In April, contractors commenced the weed clearing at the lakes site. The clearing will remove invasive weeds and non-native plants as part of the broader project seeking to permanently re-establish historic water levels in the lakes. This will be done by diverting excess water from the Herdsman Main Drain near Newman College on Empire Avenue to Perry Lakes via a network of existing and new pipes. The water from the Herdsman main drain is currently lost out to sea so the opportunity has been identified to make better use of this water. The Town will shortly commence detailed design of the engineering works to enable tenders to be called for the construction.
