City of Ballarat has welcomed news that it will receive $500,000 to upgrade sporting facilities at Russell Square’s junior multi-use change facility through the Federal Government’s Sport Australia’s Move It AUS - Community Sport Infrastructure grant program.
Russell Square is a popular facility in East Ballarat used by many hundreds of residents each week. Of all of Ballarat’s sporting precincts it has one of the greatest varieties of user groups, being regularly used by junior and senior cricket, netball, football and soccer players including masters and touch football.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh says Council will contribute $250,000 toward the project.
“These upgrades will be warmly welcomed by everyone, most particularly by the junior footballers and netballers who have been using facilities that are not up to the standard we expect our residents to enjoy.
“These upgrades are in line with Council’s Sport and Recreation Strategy and Active Women and Girls Strategy 2018. As a Council our aim is to provide opportunities and facilities that will encourage all residents to be active, involved and healthy”.
“This project is complimentary to a range of other upgrades at Russell Square”, Mayor McIntosh said.
