The Mary Valley community will soon enjoy their very own rail trail that will provide opportunities for bushwalking, mountain biking and horse riding, with construction expected to be completed by June 2019.

The Mary Valley Rail Trail is the result of significant consultation in the area and will ensure that the existing disused rail corridor connecting the townships of Imbil and Brooloo is repurposed into a valuable recreational facility for locals and visitors alike.

Gympie Regional Councillor Bob Fredman said he is looking forward to the 4.7km trail, which is through a very scenic part of the region, full of native forests and wildlife.

“Rail trails are known to bring social and economic benefits to regional towns because they are not only enjoyed by locals, but also attract visitors from outside the region,” he said.

This project is being undertaken by Gympie Regional Council and is fully funded by the State Government’s Works for Queensland program.
