Gardening enthusiasts looking for advice on garden design or tips on how to create the perfect compost should get along to the Green Thumbs Garden Day in Hilton tomorrow.
This year’s event is being held at the Hilton Harvest Community Garden on Rennie Crescent from 10am-1pm.
The City of Fremantle’s Senior Landscape Architect Jenny Cooper said the Green Thumbs Garden Day would be a fun community event that everyone interested in living sustainably will enjoy.
“As well as having lots of information about the City’s verge garden policy and the support we offer for people to create a verge garden, there will also be tips on verge design, recycling and composting,” Ms Cooper said.
“There will be talks by Amy from Hilton Harvest on composting and Michelle from APACE nursery on verge garden design and a fun activity to do with Isabel from Southern Metropolitan Regional Council.
“You can even get your hands dirty and help us plant out our new garden on the verge at Hilton Harvest.
“APACE will be giving away free native seedlings courtesy of the City of Fremantle, and veggie seedlings will be available to purchase from the Hilton Harvest Nursery.
“We will also be running a cake stall to raise funds for Hilton Harvest and are calling out for cake donations and helpers to run the stall tomorrow.”
The City of Fremantle offers and range of incentives and assistance for residents to establish a verge garden.
During the month of May Fremantle residents can download a voucher to purchase up to 40 native plants from APACE nursery in North Fremantle at the subsidized cost of just $1.50 per plant. Download your 2019 voucher.
The City also offers a Verge Preparation Assistance Scheme to Seniors Card and Health Care Card holders, which helps with the removal of soil, grass and vegetation on the verge and delivers free mulch.
