Drivers reminded of road safety

People across the region are reminded to drive so others survive during this week’s National Road Safety Week. The initiative honours more than 1,200 people who are killed and 35,000 injured on Australia’s roads each year.

Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Kerry Hayes encouraged people in the region, and those travelling through, to follow the theme and lead the way: drive so others survive.

‘Council will install temporary message boards across the region to remind road users of the road safety message to drive so others survive,’ Mayor Hayes said.

‘With this message, we join National Road Safety Week and recognise that everyone can be a leader for road safety, whether it be through our own behaviour, by serving as a role model, supporting those affected by road trauma and sharing the road safety message.

‘Our roads are shared by many, including families, grey nomads, freight transporters, workers travelling to and from shift and drovers and their livestock.

‘At this time of the year we also share our roads with an increased number of travellers.

‘Let’s do the right thing, drive smarter not faster, and each play our part in making sure that everyone reaches their destination safely.’
