Merimbula sewage project information tour continues

Bega Valley Shire Council is continuing its information tour this weekend and next to talk to the community about the Merimbula Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and Ocean Outfall Project.

Water and Sewer Services staff will be in Merimbula and at local markets to give people the chance to find out more about planned upgrades to the Merimbula plant, the ocean outfall and using recycled water.

The tour will start at Hylands Corner, Merimbula this Saturday 11 May and move to Pambula Markets on Sunday. The following weekend the tour will be at the Merimbula Seaside Markets on Sunday.

Water and Sewer Manager, Jim Collins, said that four information sessions were held earlier this year in March at Bar Beach and local markets.

“We had great community turn out and I encourage people to come by and talk to us about the project,” said Mr Collins.

The Merimbula STP is one of 10 that Council owns and operates to provide safe and sustainable sewerage services to the community.

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has instructed Council to upgrade the STP and construct an ocean outfall to dispose of excess treated wastewater during high rainfall periods.

The tour times and locations are:

Hylands Corner, Merimbula between 8.00am and 12.30pm on Saturday 11 May

Pambula Markets between 8.00am and 12.30pm on Sunday 12 May

Merimbula Seaside Markets between 8.00am and 12.30pm on Sunday 19 May.
