The new jewel of South West Sydney, Casula Parklands, sparkled in the sun as more than 1000 people turned up to a marvellous opening on Saturday.

Happy families enjoyed delicious free food, live music and all the delights of the $4 million state-of-the-art adventure playground.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better day,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “Casula Parklands really is the jewel of South West Sydney and it got the day it deserved for the opening.”

Feedback was universally glowing as children clambered over the eight-metre-high Sky Walk, whizzed down the tunnel slide, raced each other on the dual flying foxes and explored the toddler play area.

Eager fitness fans got to grips with all the ups and downs of the ninja training course – the first of its kind in Australia.

“Council staff have worked tirelessly to bring the dream of Casula Parklands to life, and watching our community embrace it is such a great reward for all their hard work,” Mayor Waller said.

“Casula Parklands is already home to the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and its wonderful Bellbird Dining and Bar, and this new adventure playground really cements its reputation as a must-visit spot.”

Opening day visitors got a delicious taste of Bellbird’s delights with free gourmet pies and sausage rolls all day while the Lions served up hundreds of sausages on a roll.

Meanwhile, dogs of all sizes and their owners were thrilled to discover the new separate off-leash parks for large dogs and small dogs.

The covered picnic shelters proved popular spots to be while the toilet, water and rubbish facilities all received a big thumbs-up from visitors.

Casula Parklands looks set to be an immediate hit with Liverpool residents and there’s more to come.

The new adventure playground is merely stage 1 in a plan that will transform the Parklands into one of the premier arts and recreation precincts in Sydney.
