Library and Information Week 2019

Library and Information Week will take place from 20-24 May 2019, with this year’s theme being Truth, Integrity and Knowledge.  Library and Information Week is a chance for everyone to discover the resources and services that are available for free from Big Sky Libraries through the Moree Community Library.

Moree Library Coordinator Samantha Geatches explained the event is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the value of reading and literacy, the importance of Australia's book industry and the role of libraries.

“It is a great opportunity to celebrate with a week of engaging events and competitions for all ages and showcase the services Big Sky Libraries provide to members of the public,” said Ms Geatches.

To mark the occasion, the Moree Community Library will be holding a junior (5-12 year olds) scavenger hunt every afternoon, after school from 20-24 May.  On Wednesday 22 May from 5.30 pm, the Library will host a Trivia Competition for adults to test their knowledge and have fun whilst socialising. Participants can enter as a group, couple or individual and light refreshments will be provided.

Additionally, the Moree Community Library will host National Simultaneous Storytime at 11am on 22 May 2019, with this year’s book, Alpaca’s with Maracas.

On Friday 24 May at 10.30am the Library will host author Kim Hodges. Kim will be promoting her second novel Girl Over the Edge which is about her lived experience with mental illness. Kim will also give a presentation that will challenge beliefs and attitudes, whilst aiming to reduce the stigma around mental illness.
