Congratulations to the 2019 Mayoral Academic Scholarship recipients

The Mayoral Academic Scholarships were held last night at the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre and nine students were announced as successful recipients.  

The scholarships worth $2500 will assist each recipient with their studies, including helping them purchase items like textbooks or tools. The scholarships are made possible by local sponsors who recognise the importance of supporting those trying to further their education and training.   Council received applications from students across the local government and the successful applicants were chosen through an interview selection process.  

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent congratulated the recipients and thanked the sponsors.  

“We had a number of applications from a variety of students. It was wonderful to meet with these applicants as part of the selection process and learn about their goals. There is certainly a bright future ahead for all those who applied.”  

“For those that missed out this year, we encourage them to apply again and look forward to their application.”   This is the 18th year Council has offered the Mayoral Academic Scholarships. In this time Council has supported 219 students and provided students with a magnificent total of $547,500.  

The deserving group of scholarship recipients are listed below:
