Local and visiting recreational fishers will be asked to sign on to a voluntary code of conduct aimed at:
Maintaining healthy stocks of barramundiMaximising the survival rate of fish being releasedEstablishing a zero tolerance for illegal fishingCaring for and respecting waterwaysThe code of conduct, identified in Council’s Fishing Strategy 2018-2022, has been endorsed by Council, the Cairns Fishing Community and relevant stakeholders.
Cairns Regional Council is one of only three local governments in Australia to establish a code of conduct for recreational fishing.
