Protect and revitalise your waterway with the Streamcare program
City of Armadale 8 May 2019

Jump on board the City of Armadale’s 2019 Streamcare program aimed at revitalising local streams and waterways located on private property.

The program provides landowners with an opportunity to access free native plants and technical advice relating to planting, weed control, careful use of fertilisers and pesticides and property planning.

Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said that since the introduction of the program in 2002 the City’s Streamcare team has assisted hundreds of landowners to maintain waterways within their property.

“The best way of caring for these waterways is by assisting residents to restrict the spread of invasive species and transform the area into a richer and balanced ecological environment.

“The program offers free native plants for eligible landowners to revegetate and create a healthier environment which will also increase shade along the creek and reduce the risk of erosion and flooding.

“Once registered the Streamcare team will arrange a site visit to evaluate the area along the creek on the landowner’s property to determine the weed control needs and discuss the area recommended for planting.

“The more landowners we introduce to the program the greater the level of environmental protection for future generations. We are making a positive difference to the waterways of the metropolitan area as these streams flow into the Wungong, Southern, Canning and eventually the Swan Rivers,” said Mayor Zelones.

Landowners who have a stream or creek on, or near, their property are invited to participate in the free program.
