Entries Selected for 2019 Art Awards
City of Rockingham 10 May 2019

The exhibition for the Art Awards, which will be held at both the Gary Holland Community Centre and the Rockingham Arts Centre in May, will highlight the wide range of artistic talent across the community.

In 2019 the Art Awards will be inspired by the theme of Space, with prizes available in seven categories including Open, Heritage, Indigenous, Local Resident, 3D, Youth and Emerging. A People’s Choice Award will also be announced at the end of the exhibition.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels congratulated the successful artists who saw their works selected for exhibition.

"The City of Rockingham has been overwhelmed by the quality, range and geographic distance that entries have come from for the 2019 Art Awards," Mayor Sammels said.

"Entries for this year’s edition of the Art Awards were received from across Australia, with one third of the final selection consisting of local artists. Participants have responded imaginatively to the theme of Space, eloquently describing physical, emotional and mental spaces.

"This year’s new addition of a three dimensional category has produced some very exciting entries. The other exceptionally interesting component of the entries was the large number of works from people who describe themselves as ‘emerging artists’. This is a heartening result and shows many people are discovering art as a medium of expression."

More than $20,000 in prizes will be available to artists in the 2019 Art Awards. Winners from each category will be selected by a judging panel on Friday 3 May 2019 and announced at an awards ceremony on Saturday 4 May 2019.

Selected entries will then go on display from Saturday 4 May – Sunday 19 May 2019 at the Gary Holland Community Centre and the Rockingham Arts Centre from 10am–3pm daily.
