Need Help Achieving Your New Year Goals?
City of Rockingham 10 May 2019

Whether they be social engagement, mental health or physical fitness targets, the City of Rockingham has a number of facilities and programs on offer that are focused on boosting community wellbeing.

Residents looking to improve their fitness can become a member at the Aqua Jetty in Warnbro, which as one of the City’s premier health facilities includes a 50m heated outdoor pool, 25m heated indoor pool, indoor leisure pool with slide, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, spa and steam room and a fully equipped health club.

The Rockingham Aquatic Centre also offers a fantastic range of watersport options, while those looking to take part in group fitness classes can check out what’s on offer at the Warnbro Community Recreation Centre. A number of team sports are also played at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

The Autumn Centre on McNicholl Street in Rockingham presents people over the age of 50 with an opportunity to engage in a range of activities including arts and crafts courses, dance and fitness classes, games and social groups.

Seniors looking to further their physical and mental health are able to take part in the Seniors Social and Wellbeing Program, which is delivered at the Golden Bay Coastal Community Centre and the Baldivis Recreation Centre.

The Rockingham Alzheimer’s and Dementia Walking Group gives people living with dementia, and their carers, a chance to make new friends while keeping active in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Once a month the City also facilitates the ‘Drop in the Ocean’ Memory Café for people living with dementia and their carers. The café gives residents a chance to join in for a friendly cuppa, chat and make new friends along the way.

All of the City’s libraries offer an abundance of resources and activities for learning while the Rockingham Volunteer Centre gives residents the chance to make a positive contribution back to their community.

The City also offers an opportunity for residents to connect with other community members through its Social Connector Luncheon Program. Over food and drink residents can meet and connect with each other and form lasting friendships.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged residents to check out the wide range of services and facilities on offer throughout the City.

"The start of a New Year often inspires people to make a number of New Year’s resolutions, and here at the City of Rockingham we are pleased to offer a range of services that can help residents improve their health and wellbeing," Mayor Sammels.

"There’s no better time to start working on those resolutions than now, so whatever your age, background or goals, I encourage residents to explore the fantastic range of options available across the City."
