From the 150 participating local governments across Australia, the Garage Sale Trail awards a handful awards each year in recognition of commitment to reuse and sustainability for communities through the program. This year a photo shoot between founder Andrew Valder (pictured centre), Mayor Barry Sammels and City of Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams was organised to promote the program through the local paper shared by both local government areas. The importance of the reuse message was emphasised to the community by the collaborative promotion.
Approximately 170 garage sales and stalls were held across the City on 20–21 October, where shoppers had a selection of 38,667 pre-loved items to shop from. Over 3,700 City of Rockingham residents participated in the Garage Sale Trail over the two days.
