PhotoVoice Exhibition Award Winners

Sixteen photographers were recognised as winners across a variety of categories during the awards night which was held during Mental Health Week at the Gary Holland Community Centre.

PhotoVoice involves participants of all ages taking photos under a particular Act-Belong-Commit theme. Photographers then include a sentence or short paragraph explaining their photo, giving it a ‘voice’. Ultimately, PhotoVoice aims to promote positive mental health in the community.  

More than 450 entries were received in this year's competition, with 100 of them going on display at the Gary Holland Community Centre during the PhotoVoice Exhibition.

A six-person panel was responsible for judging the photos on their composition and their communication of the Act-Belong Commit message. This year saw the introduction of the theme of ‘standing strong together’, applying the Act-Belong-Commit message in Aboriginal culture

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels congratulated the winners on their efforts.

"The 10th edition of the Act-Belong-Commit PhotoVoice Competition had some fantastic entries from participants of all ages and I congratulate the winners on their outstanding achievements," Mayor Sammels said.

"PhotoVoice has become one of the City’s biggest events promoting positive mental health and I’m delighted to see the dedication and skill of our amateur photographers.

"Judging the winning photographs was an incredibly difficult task for the panel and it is a testament to the quality of work submitted by all entrants."       The event was proudly sponsored by Healthway and the Act-Belong-Commit campaign and the City gratefully acknowledges their contribution.
