PhotoVoice Exhibition Opening Soon

More than 450 entries were received for this year’s competition, with 100 set to go on display during the exhibition at the Gary Holland Community Centre on Kent Street.

A six-person panel will judge the photos on their composition and their communication of the Act-Belong-Commit message within this year’s Aboriginal theme of "standing strong together".

Selected entries will then have the chance to win cash prizes in their respective categories at an awards ceremony on October 10 at the Gary Holland Community Centre.

During the exhibition visitors will also be able to vote for their favourite photograph in the Public Choice Award category.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged the community to visit the exhibition over the next three weeks.

"We are fortunate to have a large number of talented amateur photographers in the City and their best work will be on display during the Act-Belong-Commit PhotoVoice Competition exhibition," Mayor Sammels said.

"Each entrant’s work is unique and depicts some of the interesting ways people look after their mental health.

"Entry to the exhibition is free so I encourage all residents to head down and check out the wide range of fantastic photographs that will be on display.”

The event is proudly sponsored by Healthway and the Act-Belong-Commit campaign and the City gratefully acknowledges their contribution.

The Act-Belong-Commit campaign encourages community participation to increase people's sense of belonging, physical activity and enhance purpose in life which contribute positively to happiness and good mental health; creating a strong community. 

The exhibition will be open from 9am–5pm on Monday to Friday and from 9am–4pm on weekends.
