Registrations for Breakthrough Closing Soon
City of Rockingham 10 May 2019

The Breakthrough Music Competition offers young people the chance to showcase their talents and open up potential pathways in the music industry and is open to residents aged 12–24.

Entrants have the chance to win from a pool of $10,000 worth of cash and prizes, with heats to be hosted at shopping centres across the City in September.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the competition offered young people the chance to share their work and gain exposure in front of larger crowds.

“The Act-Belong-Commit Breakthrough Music Competition is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to show the City just how talented they are,” Mayor Sammels said.

“Since the competition started in 2012 it has continued to grow each year, with musicians from many musical backgrounds seizing the opportunity to showcase their talents.

“As a City we are fortunate to have many young musicians with amazing ability, so I encourage people to sign up before entries close on 26 August.”

Live performances for heats will take place at the following venues:

Heat 1 – 2 September, Secret Harbour Square from 12pm–3pm. Heat 2 – 9 September, Warnbro Centre from 12pm–3pm. Heat 3 – 16 September, Rockingham Centre from 12pm–3pm.

The grand final will be combined with the Upcycle Art Project Exhibition on 23 September at the Rockingham Arts Centre from 11am–1pm.

The City is proud to present the competition with support from Act-Belong-Commit Mentally Healthy WA, Healthway, Warnbro Centre, Stockland Baldivis, Rockingham Centre, Secret Harbour Square (Charter Hall) and Take Eight Productions.
