Duckling Season Arrives

While duckling season usually begins in September, the City has received reports of ducklings emerging from their nests in recent weeks.
As ducks often nest in hollows a long way from the nearest wetlands, they often have to travel across parks, streets or main roads to reach water.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged residents to be mindful of wildlife when going about their daily business.
“The City’s parks and wetlands are a hive of activity at this time of year, with many animals on the move,” Mayor Sammels said.
“The chance to see animals in their natural setting is a fantastic part of living in our City but we also urge residents not to feed the ducks as it can upset the natural balance of things.”
A range of problems can arise from humans feeding ducks and they include poor health, aggression, unnatural increases in population and a reliance on humans as a food source.
