Golden Bay Gets Fitness Boost
City of Rockingham 10 May 2019

The Infrastructure Planning and Development Grant, which was awarded to the Golden Bay Primary School P&C Association in Round 3 of the 2017/2018 Community Grants Program, will go toward the installation of equipment in two areas.

The first area will contain parallel, chin-up, push-up, step-up and rollover bars, while the second area will include a rope climber, log wall, commando climber, balance walkers, aerobic stepper and hurdles.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the new equipment would benefit both Golden Bay Primary School and the wider community.

“The fitness equipment will be a fantastic addition to the Golden Bay community and strongly reinforces the Act Belong Commit values of a physically active community that the City strives to achieve,” Mayor Sammels said.

“The location of the new equipment will allow students from the school as well as neighbouring sporting groups and members of the community to make the most of it.”

The total cost of the installation is $81,518, with Golden Bay Primary School contributing $28,518 and the Golden Bay Primary School Parents & Citizens Association donating $10,000. Land Developer PEET and WA Housing Authority also made a $10,000 contribution while the Lions Club of Comet Bay donated $3,000.

PEET Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore said it was well understood the inclusion of parks, playgrounds and open spaces that offer the opportunity for recreation and relaxation has a positive effect on the health and wellbeing of communities.

“We’re very pleased to be working with the City of Rockingham and Golden Bay Primary School to deliver this new fitness equipment which will benefit the community for years to come,” Mr Gore said.

Golden Bay Primary School principal Peta Lawrence said it had been a great pleasure to work in partnership with the City, PEET, WA Housing Authority and the Lions Club of Comet Bay to achieve this goal for the community.

“The installed fitness equipment will benefit our students, the Secret Harbour Dockers football and cricket clubs and the wider public,” Ms Lawrence said.

“Our community uses the oval extensively in the pursuit of health and fitness as part of the City’s Act-Belong-Commit goals.”

The installation of the equipment was celebrated at an official opening on Tuesday 21 August at Golden Bay Primary School.
