Children’s Book Week 2018

Starting on 18 August a Book Week Bonanza will be held at the Gary Holland Community Centre featuring master storyteller Glenn Swift, with games, activities and prizes all on offer.

Then from 20-26 August the City’s four libraries will be hosting a series of free community events to celebrate Children’s Book Week.

Starting at the Rockingham Central Library on Monday 20 August a Children’s Book Week carnival will be held, with kids encouraged to come dressed up as their favourite book character.

On Tuesday August 21 the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre will go book crazy with pirate story time, a special appearance from author Sally Murphy and a dress up party.

Safety Bay Library and the Warnbro Community Library will also host their own dress up events on 21 and 23 August respectively.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged residents to head to their local library and join in the fun during Children’s Book Week.

“Children’s Book Week is one of the standout events on library calendars and represents a fantastic opportunity for kids to celebrate the joy of reading,” Mayor Sammels said.

“We know that reading is a powerful tool when it comes to improving literacy skills, so it’s only fitting that the City celebrates this fantastic event.   

“With all of the City’s libraries hosting events throughout Children’s Book Week there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
