Council endorsed the draft Community Plan at its monthly meeting on 24 July, with residents encouraged to give their opinion to help shape the City’s future.
The document was initially drafted following extensive public consultation from February 2018 to May 2018, with 10,000 invitations sent out to a random sample of residents for seven workshops. Feedback was also sought from a range of groups including local businesses, schools, charities and the Disability Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee.
Surveys were also conducted on Facebook and through the City’s libraries, while a working group comprising subscribers to Rock Port also helped inform the Strategic Community Plan.
Mayor Barry Sammels said the City was excited to present the document to the public, which will complement the aspirations originally laid out in the Strategic Community Plan 2015-2025.
“The City of Rockingham is delighted to give residents the chance to have their say on the Community Plan Vision, Community Aspirations and Strategic Objectives (2019-2029),” Mayor Sammels said.
“The City is constantly evolving and the Community Plan plays a vital role in helping shape its future.
“I encourage all residents to read the document and let us know their thoughts.”
The Community Plan Vision, Community Aspirations and Strategic Objectives (2019-2029) is underpinned by four key aspirations: actively pursue tourism and economic development; grow and nurture community connectedness and wellbeing; plan for future generations; and deliver quality leadership and business acumen. Following feedback from the public, the final draft Strategic Community Plan will be presented to Council for adoption in late 2018.
Submissions close on 31 August 2018.
