With so many artists included, the 2018 Art Awards celebrates cultural diversity, inclusivity and freedom of expression with works from various media including painting, drawing, sculpture, digital drawing, pyrography, textiles, mosaics and printmaking. First time entrant Tom Ansell said, “It is a privilege to have my work selected for the show. The judges for 2018 were chosen for their varied fields of expertise and the decades of experience between them. Susan Ecker, a native New Yorker is a visual art lecturer at ECU South West having earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Maryland. Nalda Searles has also exhibited throughout Australia and has works in many private and public collections. She is most well known for her work with indigenous communities.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said anticipation is building for this increasingly popular annual event. “Preparations are well underway with the artworks being delivered and the installation team getting ready for a big two-day effort to get everything in place before judging commences on Friday. I’m really looking forward to seeing the selected works and of course the winning entries in this year’s Awards.”
These artworks will be exhibited at the Gary Holland Community Centre and Rockingham Arts Centre from 5-19 May 2018, with the award winners being announced on opening night, Saturday 5 May 2018.
