MEDIA RELEASE 10 May 2019
Waste 2 Art Exhibition now open
The Waste 2 Art Exhibition is now open at BMEC featuring 108 artworks inspired by waste.
The free exhibition is on until Sunday,19 May and will be open weekdays from 9.00am to 4.30pm and weekends from 10.00am until 3.00pm.
The initiative is designed to showcase creative works made from reused and waste materials, encouraging the audience to think about reducing, reusing and recycling waste. This year’s theme is Baling Twine and Strapping.
Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said managing waste is a community issue and this competition challenges the way we view waste.
“This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for entrants to showcase artistic abilities and share creative ideas about waste re-use and reduction. Last year there was a wonderful array of creative works submitted by everyone from school students to professional artists,” he said.
The most creative and inspiring works from each of the categories are in the running for the regional competition final in Oberon in July. Visitors have the chance to vote for their favourite artwork in the People’s Choice Award. By voting people have the chance to win a Dean Mobbs original artwork.
