Buchan’s artist in the community Saturday 11 May

The community of Buchan will welcome artist in the community Paul Oswin on Thursday 16 May at the Buchan Neighbourhood House as part of Arts in May.

The month-long arts program is a collaboration between East Gippsland Shire Council and five other Gippsland councils.

Paul will run workshops with community/art groups and schools with a focus on instinctive painting using expressive watercolour and ink mediums.

Paul is from Kerang in Victoria and has been an art teacher and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions.

“I enjoy sharing ideas with people and watching people’s creativity take over, drawing and painting have always been a lifelong interest to me,” said Mr Oswin.

East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said the Artist in the Community program is part of Come and Play – All of May where each Gippsland council hosts an artist in residence.

“Paul will take this opportunity to spend a week in Buchan running workshops with the local community to create a piece of art work in response to the environment. Community members will be able to spend time with the artist gaining new ideas and ways of looking at their world, acquiring new skills and a deeper knowledge of the art form,” Cr O’Connell said.

This year the host towns are: Buchan, Leongatha, Morwell, Wonthaggi, Port Albert and Warragul.  The artists paired with these towns are in East Gippsland – Paul Oswin, South Gippsland –Nina Katzmarski, West Gippsland–Michelle Roger, Latrobe – Sofie Dieu, Wellington – Ulla Taylor and Bass Coast – Varuni Kanagasundaram.
