Five new playgrounds for Bayside
Bayside City Council 13 May 2019

We are currently building great new play spaces for five of Bayside’s favourite parks.

New playground designs are being installed at Basterfield Park North playground, N.G Wishart Reserve, Gypsy Village Park, Elsternwick Park South playground (South) and Brighton Beach Oval playground.

When complete, the new playgrounds will include fun and interactive sensory play, with musical instruments offering a unique way for stimulation and creativity.

Interactivity is a key driver for each of the play space designs and will help create a sense of wonder and learning for children of all ages and abilities.

Each play space has been developed with help from our Playground Testers, users and local residents and follows two rounds of community consultation undertaken in 2017 and 2018.

Current playgrounds at each location do not meet contemporary community needs and expectations regarding visibility and accessibility. Where practicable, materials from the old playgrounds are recycled and will be built into any future playground construction.

These upgrades are part of Council’s investment in play, with a plan to upgrade or replace all of Bayside’s 61 playgrounds over the next 10 years at a cost of $10.3 million.

The new playgrounds are currently under construction and will be ready for play in July 2019.
