The Snowy Monaro is home to many hardworking volunteers. Throughout May, these individuals will be proudly holding the coin buckets aloft as they collect for the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal.
Last Friday, the Red Shield Appeal for our region was launched in Cooma’s Centennial Park. I joined members and volunteers from the Salvation Army to welcome a group of hearty cyclists riding from Sydney to Melbourne as part of the Red Shield Bike Ride. The cyclists have raised more than $200,000.
The launch of the Red Shield Appeal was a wonderful occasion with a number of dedicated volunteers recognised for their efforts.
Councillor Sue Haslingden and her husband Ian were presented with an appreciation award, acknowledging their 30 years’ of Red Shield Appeal service to the Bombala region.
Also recognised was Vern and Yvonne Camm from Delegate who have contributed more than 20 years’ service. Well done all.
On Monday, I visited the newly constructed Kalkite Playground and the recently opened Jindabyne Fitness Stations. Both are exciting projects delivered through the Stronger Communities Fund.
As a growing community, it is important Kalkite families have access to a playground that is safe and fun. I’m pleased Council has been able to work with the community to build a playground that will be used and enjoyed for many years to come.
The Lake Jindabyne foreshore is a popular spot for locals and tourists. The addition of a series of fitness stations near the Claypits area is a welcomed addition to the already well utilised space. There is a push-up/sit up station, balance rope, monkey bar and stepping logs.
Council will be hosting three community information stalls this week as part of the consultation for the Draft 2020 Operational Plan. Stalls will be held from 9.30am-12pm in the following locations: Bombala’s CBD on Wednesday, Jindabyne at Nuggets Crossing on Thursday and Cooma’s CBD on Friday.
