Second stage of the South Head Road shared pathway has started

Work has begun on the next stage of the shared pathway along Moruya’s South Head Road, with a 190-metre section extending east from the existing pathway near Keightley Street.

This second section of pathway will be constructed along the southern side of South Head Road, utilising the existing pedestrian refuge island as a crossing point.

Existing power poles require South Head Road to be realigned to the north to provide sufficient room for the new pathway. The road realignment includes new kerb and existing driveways will be reconstructed to suit; extra-wide driveway ramps will help drivers reverse out of properties onto South Head Road.

The pathway will continue to be rolled out in stages; the first stage of the project – a stretch of path east of Halyard Drive – was completed last year.

The project is funded by the NSW Government’s Active Transport Program, and is designed to improve access and safety for pedestrians and cyclists by connecting existing paths in Moruya and Moruya Heads.

The work will impact on traffic flow and commuters may experience delays. Traffic control measures will be in place and drivers should take extra care when moving through the site to keep workers safe.

Individual residents will be contacted by the site supervisor if property access will be affected. This section of the pathway is expected to be finished by the end of June 2019, weather permitting.
