Today at the Gympie Regional Council Special General Meeting, councillors adopted the draft Gympie Regional Council budget 2019/2020 overview to be released for public consultation.
The draft outlines the budget figures, plus the proposed projects and priorities for the upcoming financial year.
Residents are encouraged to read through the document and provide their thoughts and ideas, and can do this in two ways.
In person sessions will be held at the Town Hall on Thursday 23 May from 12.30pm and 5.00pm.
Residents can book an appointment and speak directly to councillors on 23 May. To book an appointment, please call 1300 307 800. Bookings are essential.
For residents who are not able to attend one of these sessions, an online ‘Have your say’ is available via the council website at https://www.gympie.qld.gov.au/draftbudget. Residents can also find the draft budget and related documentation such as the corporate plan here.
Feedback closes on Friday 7 June at 5pm.
A report will then be presented to Council for consideration, before the full budget will be presented for adoption at the Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday 26 June 2019.
Gympie Regional Councillor Mayor Mick Curran said this was a great opportunity for the community to have a look at the draft budget and for council to hear the thoughts and suggestions from residents.
“Councillors commenced work on the budget in November last year and have been working with staff to deliver a responsible budget for our community.” commented Mayor Curran.
“Over the past couple of years, we have seen a very large number of important economic infrastructure projects such as the Gympie Aquatic and Recreation Centre, the Rattler, the Kilkivan Equestrian Centre and ongoing signification investment in infrastructure such as roads, bridges, sewerage and footpaths.”
“This budget is a more modest budget than previous years and reflects the importance of adopting a long term approach to future financial management.”
“I would very much encourage residents to have a look at the draft, as it is important for council to listen, and get feedback on what is proposed for years to come.” said Mayor Curran.
