Almost half (40 percent) of what the average Australian household throws out is compostable organic material. A lot of that is food waste we could be using to naturally fertilise and help our gardens blossom.
Not only that but when our food waste ends up in landfill, it releases methane, a greenhouse gas which is 25 times more harmful than carbon dioxide[1].
Starting a compost or worm farm at home is a win-win for your garden and the environment. That’s why Council is offering households one free compost bin or worm farm to get you started.
While it can seem like a daunting task initially, with a few simple steps you can start a lifelong habit to benefit both your garden and our planet.
