Another fantastic Resource and Waste Expo - Mayoral Column 15 May 2019

On Saturday, Council’s Resource and Waste team partnered with community groups and local businesses to stage another successful Resource and Waste Expo. The expo focussed on the 5Rs of zero waste – refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and rot.

Held every two years, the Expo showcases the latest tips, demonstrations and techniques we can all use to make our beautiful region more sustainable.

On display was the new mobile Community Recycling Centre. This excellent initiative will allow rural residents to freely dispose of items such as car and household batteries, gas bottles, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors. Well done to all involved with this year’s Expo.

Currently out on public exhibition is the Draft Local Management Plan for African Lovegrass. In continued efforts to tackle African Lovegrass, a series of workshops will be held to further the discussion on managing the perennial weed.

Council recently held community information stalls to allow residents increased opportunities to provide feedback on the Draft 2020 Operational Plan. I would like to thank the many community members who took the time to submit their feedback on the Operational Plan, as well as providing feedback more broadly.

The latest round of aged care community conversations continue next week. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and update the community on what is happening in the aged care sector.

Conversations will be held on Tuesday 21 May and Wednesday 22 May. Locations and times can be found on Council’s website.

A reminder that the monthly Council meeting will be held on Thursday 16 May at the Bombala Community Centre from 5pm.
