Fire-fighting efforts in Jarrahdale have been strengthened after five new static water supply tanks and two retrofitted tanks provided support during the recent summer bushfire season.
The tanks, which were installed just over a year ago, provide firefighters and emergency services with a reliable water supply in Jarrahdale in the event of an emergency.
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale was successful in receiving a $250,000 grant under the Royalties for Regions Scheme to construct the five 200,000L water tanks after submitting an application to the Peel Development Commission through the Regional Grant Scheme in 2017.
The Shire contributed an additional $107,300, which also went towards retrofitting two existing 230,000L tanks located in the Jarrahdale Heritage Park to be used as additional firefighting water supplies.
The Jarrahdale Bush Fire Brigade filled all of the tanks in early 2018, however, the full effect of the tanks has only truly been realised after the first full fire season with the tanks in service.
Shire President Michelle Rich said the tanks provided peace of mind to the local community by ensuring a reliable supply water.
“I would like to thank the Peel Development Commission for its funding which has made it possible to provide this much needed asset to the Jarrahdale community,” Cr Rich said.
“We hope that there are never any serious fires in our Shire but it is important that we have the best possible resources available such as the static water tanks so we are best prepared for emergencies.”
