Works Commence on Deep Creek Bridge

It’s been a long time coming but work is now underway on replacing Deep Creek Bridge on Coramba Road, Dorrigo.

The deep pockets of the State and Federal governments have allowed the bridge to be replaced with 50/50 funding coming from the NSW Fixing Country Roads program and the federally funded Bridge Renewal program.

The $1.3 million project will completely replace the existing narrow, single lane, timber bridge identified as having a large number of structural problems. Replacing the bridge ensures that load limits are not required and improves the overall safety of users.

The existing bridge will be replaced with a new, two lane concrete bridge that will support higher mass vehicles catering for existing and future transport needs.  The new structure will be raised to improve the road alignment as well as increasing the load capacity of the bridge from 25 to 50 tonnes.

The project is currently in the beginnings of the construction phase. With an estimated completion time of 15 weeks, all goes well, motorists should be able to enjoy the new bridge come September.

Users of Coramba Road should take care when approaching Deep Creek Bridge. There may be short delays with the road under traffic control management at times. Council asks that the community consider this and allow extra time for their journeys while works are being undertaken.

This is one of a number of bridge projects underway and planned for the next financial year as part of Council’s bridge renewal program. With approximately 80 timber bridges across the Shire, this is a big task and a big investment in our community’s transport infrastructure.
