Going MAD and Making a Difference

There was intense competition for this year’s MAD Green Grants for schools and childcare centres and 14 were successful in their bids to get funds for local environmental projects.

Over 20 schools and centres applied for the 2019 grant program making it one of the most competitive rounds to date.

Made possible through the Environmental Levy and delivered through Council’s Sustainable Living program, MAD Green Grants fund projects that help some of our youngest residents connect with nature and work together to create something special that will really make a difference to their local environment. The program provides financial support of up to $2,000 to Coffs Harbour schools, preschools and early learning centres to undertake projects that really make a difference to their local environment and their local community.

The successful projects included reducing waste with recycling initiatives, to protecting our local habitat with biodiversity initiatives and increasing local food production with a kitchen garden.

“I love this grants program,” said Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Denise Knight. “MAD Green Grants are a fantastic opportunity for local schools and centres to make a difference directly to their local environment while empowering the next generation of young leaders.”
