Pete Murray has been revealed as the headline act when the Precinct comes to life for the Cairns Performing Arts Centre Open Day on 22 June.
Residents will be able to sing along with Murray’s hits So Beautiful, Opportunity and crowd-favourites Connected and Always a Winner at the free Music in the Parklands concert.
The Munro Martin Parklands event is just one part of the Open Day program, with free behind-the-scenes tours of CPAC held throughout the day, and a foodie heaven on Florence Street through Meet Eat Repeat.
Mayor Bob Manning said the Open Day will bring all the elements of The Precinct to life.
“Our vision was to create a unique experience for our residents and visitors, with CPAC and MMP connected via Florence Street. For the first time all three venues will be activated, giving residents a massive day of entertainment,” Cr Manning said.
“I’m delighted that the public will be able to enjoy these fantastic facilities, and get a firsthand look behind the curtain at CPAC.
“Generally, the only way to see the dressing rooms and rehearsal spaces and to tread the boards of the stage, is to perform in a show. Now everyone has the chance to see exactly what has been delivered through this major project.”
Free guided tours of the new state-of-the-art CPAC building will depart regularly from the foyer between 11am and 8pm – no ticket required.
Gates to both Florence Street and MMP open at 4pm with DJ Cam Kennedy setting the mood followed by local talent Maggie Slater, Kaweyova and Nikki Doll & Band.
Meet Eat Repeat will have tasty local treats for sale, from 4pm to 10pm, including food from Riley’s Paper Crane, The Chambers and Ochre Restaurant.
