Charters Towers Regional Council has been granted $2.97M in funding for the 2019-2021 round of Works for Queensland (W4Q).
The W4Q program is an initiative of the Queensland Government and supports regional Councils to undertake job-creating infrastructure projects.
Mayor Liz Schmidt said the Program provides a much-needed boost for our region. “This is fantastic news for our region! The Works for Queensland initiative provides the necessary funds we need to undertake refurbishment and repairs to our ageing infrastructure and facilities.
“Having the funds available from the Queensland Government allows us to undertake these projects without placing the financial burden onto ratepayers.”
Council has chosen to use the funding on 14 priority projects. These projects include refurbishing facilities, water main replacement works and improvements to multiple parks.
$882k has been allocated to undertake refurbishment works at the Kennedy Regiment Memorial Pool.
“Council commissioned an engineering condition assessment report at the beginning of 2017 to assess the pool’s condition and the ongoing leak. This refurbishment work is one of the recommended courses of action to possibly address the leak. The work may extend the life of the pool for another 10 to 15 years.”
