Earlier this year Council wrote to residents following concerns about vehicle speeds and road safety in Triton Road, East Devonport, regarding the installation of traffic calming along the road.
The majority of the feedback received was supportive of lowering traffic speeds.
Triton Road is classified as a local street, safety is prioritised over efficiency. Low speeds are preferred because it is a residential neighbourhood where vehicles are entering and leaving properties and pedestrians are present.
Updated traffic counts from March 2019 indicated that at one location (near Coraki Street) up to 34% of vehicles using the road are still exceeding the 50km/h limit.
In response to reviewing the speed data and the feedback, Council has decided to reduce vehicle speeds and improve road safety by;
Road Narrowing at the North Caroline Street intersection and at the Brooke Street intersection with traffic islands. Creating a slow point at the Coraki Street intersection with a mini roundaboutCouncil appreciates the feedback from residents which has helped develop the solution with construction is likely to start in June.
