City of Armadale pioneers attended the City’s annual Pioneers Reunion at the Armadale District Hall on Saturday 18 May.
Students from John Wollaston Anglican Community School volunteered their time to serve tea, coffee, and afternoon tea to 200 pioneers while dancers from Jus Dance performed on stage.
City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the event celebrates the people who have lived in Armadale for over 50 years or were pivotal in helping to establish the area.
“The event is a highlight on the pioneer’s calendar each year where they look forward to catching up with old friends and reminisce on their many years in Armadale.
“This year the event was held in the newly refurbished Armadale District Hall with many pioneers taking the opportunity to explore the Hall and the Minnawarra Art Awards exhibition which was also on display.”
Five pioneers who were in attendance were also at the official opening of the Armadale District Hall in 1936. George Stevens was one of the five and assisted with the cutting of the cake.
The event will return to its original location at the Kelmscott Hall in 2020.
